After the Exodus, God’s first revelation to His freed people was of His holiness. God called the Israelites to be holy because He is holy, and He calls us to be holy as well. Holiness is not a burden; it brings purity and freedom because the character of God is being formed within us. It leads us to experience His power and majesty. God will honor our investment in reading His Word by showing us His character and His purposes. If there are burdens and seemingly immovable things in your life, God’s Word will make a pathway.
The first five books of the Bible—known as the Books of Moses or the Pentateuch—are the revelation of the character of God and His holiness and the story of how He delivered and established His people in the earth. The Exodus story and the surrounding events are a foreshadowing of Christ’s redemptive work on the cross. These books should cause us to rejoice in God’s provision of His inspired, authoritative Word and inspire us to a deeper hunger for the things of God.
