God has blessed us immeasurably. But if we don’t become disciples of Jesus and set our hearts to honor him, then these very blessings will become curses. If we misuse what God has given us, it becomes harmful to us. God is looking for much more than outward rituals. He wants our hearts.
Two things should characterize a Christian more than anything else. One is a deep sense of our unworthiness and sin. The other is an even deeper sense of the grace of God. The Bible calls us dead in sin it doesn’t get much worse than that. But by the grace given through Jesus Christ, he makes us alive to follow him.
It’s tempting to think that nobody cares about God. It’s especially true when we see other Christians adapting the ways of our culture. When God’s work gets hard, it’s tempting to think we’re the only one who honors Him. But this is based on our limited vision, not on truth from Scripture. Paul argues in Romans that we are not alone.
God has promised to be faithful to us. But it seems as though God rejected the Israelites. If he rejected them, how can we trust him to keep his promises to us? Paul argues that we can completely trust God because he has, indeed, kept all of his promises to his people.
What god among the nations holds out his hands to his people? What god among the religions reaches his arms toward the rebellious, longing for them to repent? Only the true God! But he will not wait forever. Respond now, before the compassionate hands of God become the hands of judgment.
