In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." As believers, we must glorify God in all we say and do. But does that apply even to investing? Today, host Rob West talks with Jason Myhre of Eventide about faith-based investing that glorifies God. If investing is company ownership, this should invite us to ask the question, "What are the companies that I own?" Most of us have no idea. That’s because most of us don’t pick the companies we invest in. Instead, we use investment products where the companies are chosen for us by a portfolio manager or team of investors. You have to wonder, does the person choosing the companies for you share your beliefs, values, and ethical commitments? Are they choosing the kinds of companies you would choose for yourself? Or are they simply focused on profit? Faith-based investing is a way to outsource your investing decisions to someone who shares your beliefs, values, and commitments so you can save for the future in ways you’ll feel good about from a Christian perspective. Dwight Short says to think of yourself as God’s portfolio manager. God has entrusted us with his money to manage it on his behalf. Eventide invests in one of the leaders in water technology, helping to provide clean water to those at the bottom of the global economic pyramid. Eventide also invested in a company that was working on a new treatment for Schizophrenia, which resulted in an incredible decrease of symptoms in many Schizophrenia patients. Here are a couple of questions we answered from our callers on today’s program: --My wife and I are in the process of financing our first home. Our jobs are currently an hour away from where we’re going to be moving, and we’re hoping the Lord will provide work near our new home. What are some different ways we could earn money on the side? --My wife and I are in the process of redoing our trusts and our will. We have seven children, one of which is very much estranged from the family. We’re struggling with whether or not to include that daughter in our estate. What advice can you give us?
