“Bible Verses” that Aren’t Actually in the Bible
Many of us have heard familiar sayings that sound like Bible verses, but are not actually in the Bible. One of the most common is "God won't give you more than you can handle." This is a misreading of 1 Corinthians 10:13, which actually says that God will provide a way of escape so we can endure temptation. Another popular quote is "God helps those who help themselves," which is the opposite of what God's word says. Psalm 121:2 tells us that our help comes from the Lord. Other fake Bible verses include "If God brings you to it, he'll lead you through it," and "Follow your heart," which is from Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The Bible teaches us that our help comes from God alone, and that we can trust His provision and rest in His peace, even in the midst of hard circumstances.
