The latest Boomerang Kids Survey conducted in May found that 41% of parents have an adult child currently living with them due to increasing rent and home prices, needing additional financial support after completing high school or college, and job loss. The financial strain of helping an adult child can be detrimental to both parents and children, so it is important to set boundaries and expectations. Parents should require their boomerang child to have a job and set a deadline for them to move out. They should also set up a budget and financial plan for their child to save for an apartment and emergencies. Lastly, parents should be a financial role model for their children to teach them wise money management.
