Money—A Blessing or Curse

MoneyWise

Christian talk radio with Rob West

November 26, 2019

Christian author and preacher Selwyn Hughes once wrote, "You can't serve God and money but you can serve God with money." So is money a blessing or a curse? The answer has more to do with the person than the pocketbook. Money can be either but never both. Today on MoneyWise we explore this topic with our host, Kingdom Advisors president, Rob West. We as believers need to choose wisely and make a very a conscious decision about our money. In Matthew 6:24 Jesus warns, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Idolatry is the root cause of many sins and greed is certainly included. Ephesians 5:5 says "No immoral, impure or greedy person - such a person is an idolater - has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God." In 1 Timothy 6, Paul warns of a curse: Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. The late Larry Burkett was fond of saying, "How you use money is an outward sign of an inward condition." God has taught us how to break the curse of greed and idolatry, through generosity. Randy Alcorn's newest book is "Giving is the Good Life."
