LIBYA: “We Wanted Our Lives to Glorify Jesus”

Anita Smith, a young American woman, moved to Benghazi, Libya with her infant son and husband Ronnie just months after a deadly attack on Americans. Despite the fear, they wanted to live out their faith in Christ and introduce Libyan people to Him. Ronnie taught chemistry at the Benghazi International School and was admired for his knowledge and warm personality. Anita shares how their Libyan neighbors welcomed them and how they had many opportunities to share how Christianity is different from Islam. Tragically, Ronnie was killed in December 2013. Anita was on national TV in the US and Arabic-language TV all over the Middle East, forgiving her husband's killers and expressing her love for the Libyan people. Anita shares how God gave her peace and comfort through her family, church and Christian friends. She also shares how she was able to forgive the ones who murdered her husband and how Christ is using their sacrifice to bring Libyans to Him. Anita was one of four women who shared their stories of persecution and God's faithfulness during the Hearts of Fire Virtual Event.
